19 months...and a big scare.

Tomorrow Berit turns 19 months.  She is changing everyday, and it's not always easy to put your finger on what is different.  She's just growing up.  Plain and simple.
  • New words:  Apple, Ball (everything round is a ball), Nope, 'Cook-Cook' (for her cookie monster).
  • Loves to take things (bows, magnets etc..) and put them in a basket, and then take them out and put them in another basket.  Fun stuff.
  • Obsessed with stickers.
  • Hair is definitely growing in faster, but she's still pulling out the bows.
  • Weaning her away from her Popo during the day-- she now has some 'favorties' with her blankie, Cookie Monster, and Pepper the Pig.  Since she can't have her Popo, these are her 'go-to' items.

    19 months!

Playing with bows...she won't wear them.  Just plays with them.

    Stickers everywhere...even the dog.

We had a  BIG scare yesterday, which resulted in my first ambulance ride.  My first ride was at 31...Berit's first ride was at 19 months (well, almost 19 months).

I was putting away laundry in the bedroom and Berit was sitting on the bed.  She was playing amongst the pillows in our room, and had toys, her blankie, sippy cup all up there with her.  She knows how to get off the bed safely (shimmy's down on her stomach), so I thought I would hurry up and put some laundry away in the closet.  All of a sudden, I hear this loud thud.  I knew it was her right away so I ran to the bedroom.  She was flat on her back on the floor, and let out a huge scream cry.  Once that was done, she immedately lost consciousness and her eyes rolled back into her head.  Her arms were stiff.  Once she came to, her eyes weren't focusing right and her head wasn't stable.  I was screaming and crying and called 911 immediately.

As we waited for the paramedics, I was holding my baby girl and looking down at her.  She was still not quite right and her eyes were not focusing and every now and then her neck would kind of give out (sort of like a baby who is falling asleep, and is trying to stay awake).  One firetruck, one ambulance, and one cop car came.  In the kitchen Berit and I were surrounded by 8 or 9 men looking her over.  She was pretty mellow, and sort of out of it so we decided to take her to the hospital.  The Dr's and nurses looked her over and decided to keep her there for observation.  She was pretty mellow and then Daddy came in.  She immediately perked up.  I noticed a change right away.  She started to act like her normal self.  The Dr. came back in and looked her over again, and told us we could go home.  I was so grateful she was OK.  I would replay the events in my mind, and could not believe that we were able to go home with our baby girl.  When everything was happening, I couldn't help but think the worst, but so happy for the outcome we received.  God was watching over us yesterday.

Last night Berit slept in our bed and we had to wake her up to make sure that she could recognize us, and could wake up easily.  We will do the same tonight.

After we got back from the hospital, we had our 'early Christmas' which we had planned, and Berit opened up a few gifts and got to see what Santa brought her.

No more ambulance rides for us.  Ever.  Merry Christmas.

Loves the tree.

Playing with her easel from Santa...still has her special stickers on from the Hospital.

The Christmas performance that....wasn't.

Today was Berit's Christmas music program at school.  So, Dad went to work late and we got her all dressed up so she could go perform jingle bells.  Basically, all the bunnies had to do was walk in, look cute, and stand on the stage and shake their bells.  We dropped Berit off at her classroom and waited for the performance to begin.  Just as the kids were about to come into the Sanctuary, I spilled my glass of water...so I ran out to the hall to grab some paper towels.  As I was out there-- my little bunny made eye contact with me and started running over to me.  Meanwhile, Ms. Lesley is saying 'Quick-- go away!'  Too late.  Berit wanted her Mommy....so instead of my cute Lil' Bunny shaking her bells and dancing on stage all by herself, she had to be consoled the whole time by Ms. Meredith.  Way to go Mom....it was still so touching to see her up there.  The first of many school performances we will be attending I am sure!

Ready to go!

Or not...

Then we came home and she had a bagel with cream cheese and some tomato soup.  Her new fave.

Thankful...

We had the best Thanksgiving.  Big A and Granny came to share the holiday with us--and we also spent lots of time with Aunt Patty, Uncle Skig, and Cousin Dave.  We have so much to be thankful for this year.  Can't believe the Lil' Bean is getting so big.  She is truly blessed to have such a wonderful family that loves her so much.  Can't ask for more than that.

Out to dinner!

Thinking about giving Cousin Dave a high five...

Trying out all the food!

I totally forgot to take pics of all my fabulous food!  I was too busy being the hostest...but as my Mom put it "it was the best food ever."  Everything is the best ever according to Janet :)

Here's a pic of Berit from last year's Thanksgiving...only 6 months old!

18 months!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today we are thankful for our little 18 month old.  Here's what's going on at 18 months:

  • Biggest news is her height.  She grew 2.5 inches from her 15 month check-up, and is now 32 inches long.  She's now in the 68th percentile!
  • Weighs 21.3 pounds-- equivalent to the 10th percentile.
  • Loves to unwrap gum wrappers
  • Mysteriously does not like breakfast anymore, or any meal for that matter.  Much prefers snacking on goldfish.  Also recently has discovered M&M's...but since she doesn't eat dinner, she rarely gets them!
  • Occassionally doesn't like the high chair.  I'm not ready to give up on the high chair.  It allows me to eat, and clean while she is trapped in there!
  • New words are: 'baby' 'teeth' 'cheese' 'hi'
  • Loves 'piggy bean' rides with Daddy (piggy back ride).
  • TRYING to take away the Popo during the day-- but it's a work in progress!

Puppy Love...

From Day 1, Berit has always loved Maya.

Maya, on the other hand, hasn't always been so sure of Berit.

But not ONCE has Maya ever snapped, bitten, or scared Berit.  She has been very gentle and sweet, and that's all we could ever ask for.  Maya used to be the queen bee around here-- but now she comes second.  She may get less attention, (and for that I am very sorry) but she's still part of the family and we love her!

First time in the snow!

We had our SECOND snowstorm of the fall this week-- but this was Berit's official first time in the snow.  Last year, she was not walking at this time (obviously), so she didn't really experience the snow last year.  This age is so much fun!  I love watching her experience things for the first time.  Here are some pics from her first outing:
